We did not like to fight!
God is working in people’s hearts even during the uncertainties of COVID-19, just as He has done all throughout history when times have been hard. Our Frontline Workers have been innovating and changing the way they reach out to people, using platforms such as Zoom and WhatsApp to teach and train those interested in learning more about Jesus Christ. This is how three college students in India were able to learn more about Jesus even though all the lockdowns in place, and come to give their hearts to Jesus. They share, “We were born and brought up in radical Muslim families. We were always against Hindus and all the people of other religions. Our fathers used to fight with the Hindus when they were young because the Hindus killed our brothers and mocked our religion, and that is how we were also raised. But we were not like our fathers, we did not like to fight with others. We even had some Hindu friends. We study at the university and one day one of our classmates, who had a similar way of thinking to ours, gave us some literature. We were astonished to see that he had Christian literature, and at first we refused to read it. But he kept insisting, so we decided to read it, not because we wanted to, but because he was the only person who understood that we didn’t want to fight. The literature he gave us was, ‘Did God appear in the flesh?’, ‘What do you think about Christ’ and ‘Life of Christ’ [Note: These booklets are publishings of Call of Hope]. We began to read the literature and we were shocked to see Jesus’ love and sacrifice for others. We were intrigued by the teachings and lifestyle of Jesus. We immediately knew that we wanted to follow Jesus. We began to read the literature every day for hours after our college studies and also would speak with Brother Asad to help clear our doubts. Our faith in Christ began to grow and we decided to attend Sunday Fellowship with Brother Asad. We also participated in Zoom seminars with Brother Asad and were able to talk for hours with him each time. We have learned so many things during the last three months. For example, we learned,
1) “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” -Philippians: 4:6-7 2) “Jesus said, “I AM the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall LIVE.” -John 11:25 3)“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son (Jesus), that WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” – John 3:16-17
All these and other things were taught to us during the three-month lockdown. After we came to understand these teachings, our faith in Christ grew and we accepted Him as our personal Saviour in May 2020. We were also reading the Bible daily and the verse which touched us is, 1 John 3:16, ‘This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.’ We asked to be given our baptism. At first, it was refused, because right now is not the safest time. But we continued to insist. After seeing our faith and passion for Christ, it was agreed that we should take baptism. So we took baptism and started our new life in 20 June 2020.
Please pray for us, we haven’t told our parents about our new found faith. Pray that we will stand for Jesus when the time comes to tell our families and our village.”
